Please note! This module has 3 weeks of embedded practice placement in the course period. As well, it can be taken concurrently with the module Cultural Heritage and National Identities.

Target Group

The module is ideal for both university college students in the Faculty of Education (Teacher Education or Social Education/Early Childhood Education), as well as university or university college students (B.A., B.Sc., B.Ph.Ed.), especially in fields such as Pedagogy, Sports, Health and Wellness or Youth and Community Work.

How to apply

Purpose of The Module

The module will focus on how you as a teacher or educator can plan courses where experience and sense perception are essential parts of the pupils’ learning processes, where cultural institutions, local surroundings and the environment are incorporated in learning processes.

As the scope of the module is interdisciplinary, students from a wide range of disciplines are welcome. You will have the possibility to work with your subject area in different activities and sequences.

In the module, there will be both classroom work and out of classroom work in the local surroundings, which will be used in a constructive and inspiring way.

The module includes visits and activities in the monument area in Jelling, UNESCO’s world heritage, Christiansfeld and Økolariet in Vejle. Theoretically, we will dig deeper into the phenomenon ’learning through experience’.

You will be introduced to a didactical thinking called ’GLO’, which is suitable for planning, completion and assessment of learning processes, where surroundings, experiences and sense perceptions are essential elements.

Work Load

This module is equivalent to 10 ECTS.

Teaching Methods

All teaching and counselling is in oral and written English.

Relevant outdoor facilities and culture disseminating institutions will be used as well as a great amount of student activity, work with theoretical aspects from texts and presentations.

Concrete activities for learning through experience and sense perception will be experienced and developed.

Conditions

In order to complete the module and obtain a certificate, you must:

  • Actively participate in classroom and group work
  • Actively participate in activities initiated by fellow students, instructors or cultural professionals on campus – indoors or outdoors – and at historical or cultural sites.
Course Description

This module has 3 weeks of embedded practice placement in the course period

The module is finished off with a project in collaboration with the Christiansfeld Centre, which is responsible for the administration and dissemination of UNESCO’s heritage in Christiansfeld.

In the group project, you will produce activities including materials, which live up to the theme of the module and thereby competence-, knowledge- and proficiency objectives of the module, which the centre can offer schools and classes that, visit the area/heritage site.

While there will be classroom teaching, indoor presentations and group work, many of the activities will occur outdoors. Therefore, students must be prepared to be active participants outdoors in all types of weather.

Expected Learning Outcome

Knowledge

At the end of the course, the student has knowledge about

  • pedagogy and didactics in relation to outdoor learning and teaching
  • pedagogy and didactics in relation to how children and youth learn and are motivated through experience and sense perception
  • digital learning materials in order to be able to use these materials outdoors and in order to create experiences for the pupils in their learning process
  • learning, education and didactising of outdoor culture dissemination

Proficiency

At the end of the course, the student can

  • describe, analyse and use pedagogy and didactics in relation to outdoor learning
  • describe, analyse and use pedagogy and didactics improving the pupils’ learning by playing
  • carry through experimenting teaching that can promote the pupils’ experiences and sense perceptions in learning processes
  • plan, carry through, assess and develop outdoor teaching- and learning processes on a reasoned and reflected basis
Examination

On the basis of the completed study product/project pertaining to learning through experience and sense perception, the students will present this product/project. The product/project can be completed individually or in a group.

Ahead of the presentation, the students will submit a document, which will be graded. Information regarding the size and type of document will be stated in the course plan and/or at the beginning of the module.

Students will be awarded a grade from The Danish 7-point grading scale.
